The Great Commandment

Matthew 22:36-40

“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said to him. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

God: We believe that there is one God who exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit. [Genesis 1:1, 26-27, 3:33; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2]

Jesus: We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, was born of a virgin, was fully God and fully man, lived a sinless life, died in our place as a sacrifice for the sins of mankind, was buried, arose bodily from the grave, and ascended into Heaven, and will return someday to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. [Matthew 1:22,23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; Romans 1:3-4; 1 Timothy 6:14-15]

Holy Spirit: We believe the Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He is active in convicting the world of sin, rightousness, and the judgment. He also gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians we seek to live under His control daily. [2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13, 5:18]

Bible: We believe the Bible is the Word of God without any error, the sole authority for life and faith. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. [2 Timothy 1:13, 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Psalm 119:105,160, 12:6]

Man: We believe that man is a special creation of God, made in His image, but that through the sin of the first man, Adam, mankind fell so that all men are sinners, separated from God and need salvation. [Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2]

Salvation: We believe that salvation is a gift from God that we receive when we repent of our sins and turn to faith in Jesus Christ. Salvation is wholly the work of God. We cannot earn it our achieve it. [Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 1:12, 14:6; Titus 3:5]

Eternal Security: We believe that every person who is truly saved is eternally secure in the Lord Jesus Christ. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. [John 10:29; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25; 1 Peter 1:3-5]

Eternity: We believe that those persons who die in their sins without Christ spend eternity in Hell and those who die with their sins forgiven through Jesus Christ spend eternity in Heaven. [John 3:16, 14:17; Romans 8:17-18; Revelation 20:15]

Baptism: We believe that baptism is an act of obedience to the command of our Lord Jesus Christ and is by immersion after salvation. [Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 18:8; Colossians 2:12]
